First Lady Rachel Ruto, through the Mama Doing Initiative, has partnered with the Narok County Government for a city transformation project.

The project entails a clean-up of Narok town and planting of 500 million trees in support of the commitment made by President William Ruto to plant 15 billion tree seedlings by 2032.

Also part of the initiative is Maasai Mara University and Kenya Forest Research Institute.

Speaking at St Mary’s Primary School after participating in a cleanup exercise and later launching of a center of excellence in nursery management, Mama Ruto who was flanked by Narok Governor challenged youth and women to seek for best ways of waste management.

On his part Governor Ole Ntutu thanked the First Lady and the stakeholders for organizing the tree project to be maintained by the youngsters.

"The rollout of the City Transformation Program by Her Excellency, the First Lady, is a major boost to the interventions that my administration has put in place to ensure a clean, safe, and habitable town and county at large. In the recent past, I conducted spot checks and documented the sanitation requirements for Narok Town," said the Governor.

This is the first in a series of activities that the First Lady will be undertaking in Narok Town from Monday until tomorrow for the City Transformation Program under the Mama Doing Good Initiative.

From flagging off the clean-up exercise, the Governor accompanied Mama Rachel Ruto to St. Mary's Primary School for the launch of the Mama Fruits Gardens.

The Mama Fruits Garden is a project through which the Mama Doing Good Organization is contributing towards meeting its target of planting 500 million trees by 2032 by working with women and communities to plant and grow indigenous and fruit trees.

The fruit seedlings will be distributed to over 20 primary and secondary schools across the county, and they will go a long way in boosting Narok County's reafforestation efforts.
