First Lady Rachel Ruto endorses Pastor Dorcas Rigathi's boy child program
First Lady Rachel
Ruto has endorsed the boy child program under the Office of the Spouse of the
Deputy President (OSDP) in efforts to rescue the boys and men in Kenya from
drug and substance abuse, and other vices.
The First Lady
spoke in Gachie, Kiambu County, on Saturday at the First Born Christian Centre
during the 60 years celebrations of church ministry by Archbishop Gerry
Kibarabara, where Pastor Dorcas Rigathi was also present.
"I want to
appreciate my sister for the work she is doing with the boy child. It is true
that this generation we are having right now, our children, are going through a
lot," said the First Lady.
Archbishop
Kibarabara also acknowledged the efforts to save the boy child, and encouraged
Pastor Dorcas of the church's support for success in the program.
"In our own
small ways, here at the grassroots, we are in full support of the boy child
program,” said the Archbishop.
Pastor Dorcas has
championed for the boy child program in different parts of Kenya, and also
reached out to the international community.
This March, Pastor
Dorcas presented a paper on 'male inclusion and engagement' at the United
Nations in New York.
Since coming into
office, she has been a voice for the boys and men in the country and was even
recognised by Kenyans in Canada for the initiative to save the boy child.
A multi-pronged
approach in phases is being used to rescue the boy child and includes
rehabilitation, skilling, retooling, TVET on wheels, and connection to
employment and entrepreneurship.
This comes after
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday also convened a meeting in Nyeri of
administrators, county leaders, politicians, and other leaders with the sole
intention of eradicating illicit brews central region, which includes Nyeri,
Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Muranga, and Nyandarua Counties.
DP Gachagua stated
that from next week, all administrators and security teams would ensure there
was no producer of illicit brew in their area, or they would lose their jobs.
The eradication of
illicit brew would greatly help in the success of the boy child program under
the OSDP.
