Family seeks answers over disappearance of Isiolo NPR officer

A family in Isiolo County is seeking answers following the abduction of a senior National Police Reservist (NPR) officer, Malele Abdi Hassan, whose whereabouts remain unknown more than a week later.

Malele, who headed NPR operations in Burat Location, was reportedly abducted on December 20 while riding home on a motorcycle.

Witnesses say three masked men forced him into the boot of a private vehicle before driving off.

Clan leaders say the family is living in fear and have raised concerns after police later collected Malele’s official firearm despite denying any involvement in his disappearance.

"Alikua amebeba mama mmoja kwa pikipiki. So wakati alishikwa, mama alipiga kelele na hakuna kitu angefanya,” said Hassan Absalom Barre, the brother of the abducted officer.

“Malele amesomesha watoto secondary, university na kila mahali huku kwote. We want him to be returned back to us,” Shamim Abdullahi, the vice chairperson of the Ajuran clan on her part lamented.

Yessir Adan Mohamud, the Ajuran clan chairperson in Isiolo added, “He didn’t get any threats from anyone and it was just a random arrest…if there was any threat, he could have said.”

Malele is a father of nine, and community leaders are now calling on authorities to urgently investigate the incident and disclose his whereabouts.
