A family of four from Lwanya in Matayos, Busia County, has been placed under isolation at their home after coming into contact with a priest who tested positive for the coronavirus.
The four had attended a funeral held in Ugunja, Siaya County, on March 14 where the priest, who jetted into the country from Rome, Italy, led mass and interacted freely with mourners.
The priest, Father Richard Onyango Oduor, later tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) and is presently under quarantine at the Mbagathi hospital.
Another person who had flown in from Afghanistan and resides in Nambale is also under quarantine, as well as a retired Archbishop from Malaba who had traveled back from the UK; both of whom attended the funeral.
Busia County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said they are presently tracing persons who have so far interacted with the suspected victims, adding that no case has been confirmed to be positive yet.
Mr. Kanyiri further stated that they are making sure the six don’t leave their homes, also urging the rest of the locals to be cautious not to expose themselves and in turn expose others.
