Family in agony as Grade 7 son still missing after Hillside Endarasha fire
The family of Kelvin Kafogo Njogu, a Grade
7 learner at the ill-fated Hillside Academy Endarasha says it will accept the
dreaded fate of their missing kin, even as they demand justice for all the
victims of the fire tragedy.
Sorrow and grief welcome you to Njogu’s
family at Charity Village, in Kieni West, Nyeri County.
Kelvin's mother is overcome with the
shocking reality, that her son is still missing, 72 hours after the Hillside
Academy Endarasha fire tragedy.
Unable to continue with the prayer session
organized by local church members, she sits back.
Other distraught family members, gather
outside their house. You can barely hear a single word, as friends and
neighbours murmur in hush tones.
Thirty-seven-year-old Simon Kafogo Njogu,
Kelvin’s father, is yet to come to terms with the unprecedented turn of events.
“Mimi nilipeleka mtoto wangu shuleni
akasome…na sasa hatujui ako wapi,” he says.
Despite the anger and emptiness shrouding
this village, the devastated families are left on the edge as they await
answers from the authorities and school management, regarding the whereabouts
of their missing beloved.
“Tumeambiwa na DCI kesho twende
NaroMoru…hakuna taarifa yoyote,” Mr Njogu adds.
Even as Kelvin’s family seek answers
regarding the fate of their kin, they want justice.
“Ni nani hakuajibika? Tunaskia kwamba
hakukuwa na matron na security,” his father says.
Amidst the calamity, Kelvin’s family is
preparing for what will definitely be an enduring trip to Naro-Moru Level 4
Hospital, where DNA Samples will be collected from parents in a bid to locate
and identify the missing learners.
