Fake Interpol officers arrested
Three Sudanese nationals were on Wednesday arrested for impersonating international police officers (Interpol) and being involved in a spate of kidnappings in the city.
Kilimani OCPD Peter Katam said the lead suspect, Haisam Ahmed, was arrested with fake Interpol credentials that he had used to threaten and arrest victims before his two male accomplices were also nabbed.
The police boss is now appealing to other kidnapping victims to record statements with police, saying Haisam had abducted a city businessman recently and kept him hostage for 17 days while demanding a Sh500,000 ransom.
The fake Interpol officers; Haisam Ahmed, Ahmed Ismael Adam and Mohammed Elmutasim will be arraigned in court on Thursday to face kidnapping charges.
Elsewhere, police have gunned down two suspected gangsters at Kabiria area in Dagoretti , Nairobi.
The two, who were part of a six-man gang, reportedly broke into a retail shop in the area where they stole goods of an unknown value that they managed to transport from the scene using a handcart.
According to Riruta OCS Bernard Ng’eno, the six declined to surrender and police opened fire on them, shooting two of them dead while four managed to escape,
This comes just a day after police in Mombasa foiled a planned terror attack by suspected Al Shabaab militants in Nyali area.
The officers recovered two assault rifles and over two hundred rounds of ammunition that were being used by the suspects.
