Faith Kipyegon awarded Ksh.2M by Safaricom

Double Word Record holder Faith Kipyegon has been given a Ksh.2 million cash incentive
by Safaricom for her outstanding performance.
Kipyegon,
who recently set new World Records
in 1500m and 5000m races in the Diamond League was celebrated by the telecommunication giant on Monday.
A wall mapping of Kipyegon was also put on display at the 29-floor skyscraper in the central business district.
The ceremony
was hosted by Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, who hailed the athlete for putting
Kenya on the world’s map.
“At
Safaricom, we are committed to supporting talents in the country. We appreciate
and feel proud of what Faith has achieved and for her stellar performance,
breaking two world records in one week. I believe this will help motivate
many more talents in the country,” said Ndegwa.
He lauded
Kipygeon as a role model to young women, adding: “We will continue to be
involved in sports because we know sports is a source of inspiration and a
passion for many Kenyans.”
On
her part, Kipyegon thanked Safaricom and urged young athletes and young mothers
to follow their hearts, do what inspires them and focus and believe.
Kipyegon ran the 1500M race at a time of 3:49.11 and
the 5000M race at 14:05.20.
She
now shifts her focus to Monaco for the IAAF Diamond League scheduled for July,
followed by the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary slated for
19th- 27th August, which she described as her goal for the year.
