Ex-Meru Governor Munya joins NASA

Former Meru Governor Peter Munya has joined opposition coalition NASA, saying he wants to be on ‘the right side of history.’

The former governor,  now the sixth National Super Alliance principal, said he wants to end the culture of rigging elections.

Speaking on Monday at Capitol Hill, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi welcomed the decision by the ‘PNU leader’, saying that it is a step towards securing the presidency ahead of the fresh presidential vote ordered by the Supreme Court.

Munya was received by NASA leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi.

Several other ‘PNU officials’ including Secretary General John Okenwa Anunda, Treasurer Peter Kaberia and the party’s senatorial candidate in the August 8 elections Mugambi Imanyara joined NASA.

“For Kenyans to be happy and the country to prosper, the bedrock of democracy, which is a free, fair and credible election must not be interfered with every election year. I cannot join hands with people, Jubilee, who stole my votes just as they stole for Raila Odinga,” said Munya.

The former Council of Governors (CoG) chairperson also revealed that he will be moving to court to contest the election of his rival Kiraitu Murungi as Meru governor.

According to IEBC website, Jubilee’s Kiraitu Murungi garnered 281,737 while Munya cam second with 232,569 votes.

In August 16, Registrar of Political Parties Lucy Ndun’gu gazetted former President Mwai Kibaki as the leader of PNU, legally ending Munya’s claim to the party leadership.
