Embu man allegedly takes own life after failed robbery

Police in Kithiri, Embu County are investigating the mysterious death of a suspected thief who allegedly died by suicide following a botched robbery attempt in the area.
Antony Mugendi’s lifeless body was discovered hanging from
the roof of his house on Thursday morning, a few hours after he and unknown
accomplices were reportedly caught stealing macadamia nuts from a local farm.
Reports indicate that Mugendi and his accomplices managed
to flee the scene before residents could subject them to mob justice.
Mugendi reportedly sought refuge in his home, staying out
of sight to avoid the wrath of the mob that was pursuing him.
However, his neighbours discovered him dead the next
morning, dangling from an electric cable.
"He is believed to have entered his house through
the window to avoid suspicion. Residents found him dead and his window open. He
may have felt guilty and, fearing the wrath of the residents, decided to take
his own life,” said Nembure Sub-Location Assistant Chief Joseph Njiru.
Officers from Nembure Police Station subsequently visited
the site and moved the Mugendi’s body to Gakwegori Mortuary.
