Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado is set to lose property worth Ksh.235 million believed to have been fraudulently acquired through proceeds of corruption.

This is after the High Court on Tuesday granted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) authority to seize and auction the properties including residential houses and two high-end cars.

According to EACC, the properties including a Ksh.40 million home in Nairobi's Loresho estate belong to Obado and his associates and are proceeds of corruption and unexplained wealth stolen from Migori County Government.

The court orders by Justice Esther Maina were issued following an out-of-court settlement between Obado and EACC.

"In the consent judgement delivered in the civil forfeiture case by Justice Esther Maina on Tuesday, the High Court adopted an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) settlement reached by the parties," said EACC.

The commission added: "The consent judgement does not affect the ongoing criminal case against the former Governor and his children, whose cumulative direct benefit from the fraudulent scheme was to the tune Ksh.73 million."

The targeted properties include a commercial block valued at Ksh.88 million known as Sunrise Centre, a Ksh.57.6 million five-storey residential block and two apartments in Greenspan each worth Ksh.9 million.

Also to be auctioned is a Ksh.10 million residential property and two Toyota land Cruiser vehicles.
