EACC recovers stolen Gov't land, house worth Ksh.40 million
The half-acre piece of land is the 21st out of 24 various prime government state units that the EACC has been recovering. The recoveries of the 3 remaining units are still ongoing in court.
Addressing
press from the recovered land on Friday, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi revealed the recovered
property located behind Taidys Hotel in Nakuru City had been
planned, reserved, and used for Government housing, known as St. Xavier Estate.
The commission decided to take the matter to court after continuous warnings to vacate the land fell on deaf ears. Investigations revealed that the land was illegally obtained by the then Commissioner of Lands Wilson Gachanja on 30th June 1994.
Justice Mwangi Njoroge of the Nakuru Environment and Land Court ruled in favour of the EACC in the matter.
Meanwhile, the commission has called upon all people sitting on illegally acquired land belonging to the government to surrender land grabbed or they will meet the full arm of the law.
