Drama as Ole Kina, Governor Abdi Guyo trade barbs during Senate hearing

Drama was on Tuesday witnessed at the Senate Public Accounts Committee when Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo and Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina traded barbs.

The Governor had withstood a barrage of accusations of alleged incompetency from the Senators for having submitted substandard responses to the question that had been raised by the Godfrey Osotsi-led committee.

Senators had taken issue with the casual manner in which Guyo had answered the questions, with Migori Senator Eddy Oketch terming his county administration “dysfunctional” and even calling for its disbandment.

However, trouble started when the Governor tried to defend himself as he dismissed claims that he was incompetent and unable to run the country.

"I was elected in Nairobi for three terms as an MCA, you can't be elected for that long if you are incompetent," Guyo said.

The sentiments appeared to irk Senator Ole Kina who claimed that the Governor was digressing and trying to intimidate them.

"Stop digressing, address the issues that have been raised, who cares where you had been elected? Some of us do serious oversight in this committee, don't tell us about your election as an MCA," Ole Kina barked while banging the table.

Guyo did not take the sentiments lysing down as he shouted back and reduced the committee to a shouting match between them.

"You can't intimidate me Ledama, you can't. I was elected by the people not to come here to be intimidated," he retorted.

The committee chair was forced to end the session prematurely as the shouting match between the two leaders continued with other Senators also joining in.

The Governor was appearing before the committee to explain how the county spent money in various funds including those for emergency, women, youth, persons living with disability, education, as well as bursaries.
