Drama as man climbs communication mast in protest over high living costs

There was drama in Nyahururu town after a middle-aged man scaled a communication tower at the Nyahururu police station in what has since been established as a lone protest against the sky-high cost of living.

The man who was arrested after the Wednesday evening accident that lasted into the early hours of Thursday told onlookers that he had reached the end of his rope.

According to witnesses who spoke to Citizen.Digital, the man from Mboiman Ol, jororok said he had nothing left to feed his family and that his wife had already returned to her parents.

"I came here with a heavy heart, I have no means to feed my family, my wife already left me, saying that she does not seed the need to be married to someone who cannot even provide a basic meal," he was quoted as saying.

He would later scale the communication mast in the heart of town, threatening to commit suicide unless the government intervened to address the high cost of living.

Several videos obtained by Citizen.Digital showed members of the public pleading with the man not to jump from the mast.

Onlookers however, managed to convince him to descend from the mast, after which he was booked at the Nyahururu police station amid investigations into the incident.
