Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has told off online government critics who have been mocking President William Ruto over his mastery of roads and towns in Mandera and Isiolo counties.

Speaking on Tuesday at his Karen residence in Nairobi, the Deputy President took issue with those trolling his boss in now viral posts and videos, reaffirming that the said project would be completed before 2027 and that the online noise is bootless.

Kindiki went on to reveal that netizens were ignorant of the government’s projects and had instead resulted to paltry condemnation yet construction of most of the sections in the 750-kilometer Isiolo-Modogashe-El Wak- Mandera road are underway.

He noted that 11 contractors are already on site to speed up the roads and ensure they are completed within the expected duration.

“I saw some people making fun of the huge road project we are constructing between Isiolo and Mandera. This is a massive project that will be completed in the next two and a half years,” he said.

“You can make fun of it to be applauded online but we are focused because it will be the same road we will be using to explain to the people there what have done for them. We already have 11 contractors on site each with a stretch of about 100 km. In some sections, 50 per cent has already been tarmacked.”

According to the DP, Kenyans on social media were mindlessly and hastily creating disparaging content against the government without an understanding of what is happening or even knowing the towns they were speaking about.

“Because the person texting hajui Samata ni wapi au Koturo, let them mock us but when 2027 comes and we go to account, we will use that road from Isiolo to Mandera and that part of the country will be opened up for economic transformation,” said Kindiki.

DP Kindiki’s remarks follow online criticism of the President and his lyricism style of naming roads during his political rallies and tours across the country.

In one of the memes which has ricocheted off the Kenyan internet for the last week, the President during his tour of North Eastern Kenya said: “Ndio barabara itoke Mandera, ikuje Ramu, ikuje Garre, ikuje El-Wak, ikuje Kobo, ikuje pale Kotulo, ikuje Tarbat, ipitie hapa Wajir, iende Samatan, iteremke Modogashe, ifike Isiolo, iende Nairobi..."

Kenyans in their creative norm later churned out short videos on TikTok trolling Ruto's lyricism, while others even created an entire dance based around Ruto's Isiolo road mastery.

The memes were advanced by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who previously claimed his former boss managed to capture the soul of the Mt. Kenya people by expertly name-dropping their local roads and leaving everyone in awe.

He said: "Naona huyo jamaa amekwama hapo kwenu. Nyinyi mko na bahati but we are here to advise you. Alienda kwetu siku sita, kwetu he was there six days out of seven, every week. Hakuna barabara hajui kwa jina. Hakuna soko hajui kwa jina. And he would memorise, we were very impressed. He would mention a road and Kikuyus would go, ‘eh eh eh eh!’”
