The meeting at the DPs Official Karen Residence discussed various areas of cooperation between the two countries including ways of boosting trade relations between the two countries. 

The Deputy President emphasized that the government's agenda of reviving the economy using the Bottom Up strategy remains on course and foreign investors are key to realising development.

"As you might be aware, we came into government with the vision to radically transform our country’s economy and as such the Kenya Government is robustly implementing this Plan through for the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. One of the key planks in this agenda is to expand markets for our products abroad, and to attract more Foreign Direct Investment, and I think this forum and the other engagements today clearly fit into that agenda," said Gachagua.

The two leaders have established five broad sectors to guide strategic investment to catalyze and maintain high rates of economic performance. 

The areas include transforming agro-industrial productivity and food security, Universal health coverage, including the production of medical commodities and biomedical supplies, The digital superhighway and last-mile internet connectivity, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and, the provision of affordable housing through the construction of   250,000 units annually over the next 5 years.

"Colombia investors are invited to consider these opportunities by taking advantage of and partnering with us in this exciting journey," said Gachagua.

The DP called on investors from Colombia to take advantage of the existing Kenya- Colombia excellent bilateral relations and invest in Kenya saying the government is working to ensure a favourable environment.

The Colombian Vice President lauded Kenya as a destination for trade and investment.

Discussions also touched on the introduction of direct chartered flights from Kenya to Colombia which will be an enabler for trade and investment.

The two leaders also oversaw the signing of two MOUs on cooperation between Kenya and Colombia and also enhancing gender equality and women empowerment.
