DCI nabs notorious drug traffickers with high-priced foreign bhang

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) have confirmed the arrest of two suspected drug traffickers in Nairobi's Donholm area.

In a statement shared on social platform X on Sunday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the suspects as Kenyan national Teresia Nduku and Tanzanian national Simba Kitwana Khamri, both found in possession of high-value cannabis believed to have been smuggled from abroad.

After their arrest, the suspects led detectives to their residence in the Manyanzani area of Tala, Kangundo Sub-County.

During a thorough search, authorities uncovered a backpack with a cleverly hidden compartment containing cannabis sativa, a digital scale, and several incriminating documents.

“This is a unique strain of cannabis sativa that originated from foreign lands and infiltrated Kenya through the Namanga border,” said the DCI in their Sunday statement.

The Tanzanian suspect, described by detectives as a "maestro in skillful packaging and disguising the illicit drug in backpacks," is believed to have been responsible for preparing the drugs for global distribution.

According to investigators, the seized strain of cannabis is highly valued, with an estimated street price of Ksh. 8,000 per gram.

“Further analysis will be conducted to understand its distinctiveness,” the statement added.

The suspects remain in custody as they await their arraignment.
