DCI nab repackaged sugar in Kisii

In a sting operation as a result of a tip from members of the public, area OCPD Charles Opondo confirmed the arrest of a middle-aged woman, who allegedly colludes with unscrupulous business individuals in the area. The syndicate repackages sugar from Tanzania and Uganda into sacks labelled Mara, Sony and other local sugar mills.
During the Monday morning raid, the suspects were found to be operating in a filthy environment without any weighing machines.
Opondo said they have already alerted Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) officials for investigations before subjecting the sugar to a lab test.
The owner of the premise, Dorcas Kemunto told Citizen Digital that she rented the house to an individual by the name Sam Ouko who is still on the run, not knowing what was going on in the house.
The DCI sleuths have launched a manhunt for individuals who are believed to be behind the unauthorised sugar business in Mogonga, Kenyenya, Ogembo and also in Kisii.
Locals say they read business unusual inside the story building as it's gate was constantly closed.
This comes as the government continues with a nationwide purge on contraband sugar alleged to have been sneaked into the country despite being flagged by authority.
