Moesha Kibibi, a founding female member of
the popular FBI dance crew in Kenya that won the Sakata dance battle in 2011,
has opened up on how she came to be a 'mother' of at least 2,500 children.
Speaking
in an interview with Citizen TV's Lulu Hassan on Friday, Kibibi narrated how -
after winning the award - she started taking care of the needy in society,
taking them in one by one until the number ballooned to 2,500 people; among them
children from the age of 12 and above.
“Taking
care of the needy in society is my full-time job and I’m glad I’m a mother of
many children,” she said.
Kibibi
said she caters for the children's medical bills, food, clothing, and foots
their education fees; she has rented 15 houses for them in different counties.
During
the interview, she emotionally said that she works day in and day out to
provide for them, adding that she is never at peace when her ‘children’ - as she refers to them - lack essentials.
She
opened up about the myriad of challenges she has passed through including
discrimination, people telling her she’s wasting her time, as well as surviving
rape.
Despite the many challenges, Kibibi stated that
she has now had to work hard on her dance to pay her school fees as well as provide
for the children. She depends on well-wishers, donors, goodwill and her savings
to pull through.
On
why she set out on the charity-driven journey, she explained that the help she
is offering to society is based on her past life.
“I
have been born in Majengo and after my parents passed away I had to realize
that this is life. I have gone through a lot...what I’m doing to these kids imetoka
kwenye my life story,” she stated.
Kibibi
further expressed pride in the kids saying they perform well in school, hence giving
her the motivation to keep sacrificing more and more for them.
