CS Matiang’i recalls all police officers on leave, warns against reckless merrymaking

The government on Wednesday recalled all officers within the national security sector who are on leave during this festive season.

The National Police Service (NPS) will also make use of officers from the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) of the administration police wing to maintain law and order across the country.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i warned Kenyans against reckless merrymaking reminding them that COVID-19 regulations are still in force.

During an official visit at the RDU headquarters in Embakasi, CS Matiang’i assured Kenyans of their security saying that adequate deployment arrangements have been made across the country.

“Members of the National Security Council are not on leave…we’re all on duty through the Christmas period until the New Year because our responsibility is to make sure our country is safe and people are secure,” said the CS.

The CS revealed that the more than 50 platoons of the RDU will be used in fighting crime in different parts of the country; among those to be deployed are the all female commandos of the SWAT team that will be patrolling the city.

“I ask my fellow citizens to move around safely and know that the country is safe and secure,” he stated.

But it’s not just criminals that the security officers will be dealing with, CS Matiang’i also put on notice Kenyans who have travelled to different destinations with the intent to merry make, warning that a breach of COVID-19 regulations will not be condoned.

“We’re asking you, fellow citizens, to observe these regulations…we’re not doing this because we derive fun from it, we’re telling you because we have a duty of care,” noted the CS.

Matiang’i was speaking during the launch of the Mutyambai Senior Officers mess at the RDU headquarters.

He also promised to tour different regions in the country to monitor security operations during the festive period.
