Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Cabinet
Secretary Aden Duale departed for New York on Saturday to participate in the
79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
This year's assembly will be held from September
22 to 23 under the theme “Unity in Diversity, for the Advancement of Peace,
Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Everyone Everywhere."
According to a dispatch from Duale’s
office, a key focus of the CS’s agenda will be to ensure the smooth functioning
of the Meeting of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on
Climate Change (CAHOSCC).
President William Ruto is expected to chair
the gathering as leader of the Kenyan delegation at the UNGA.
The CS is also scheduled to hold bilateral
meetings and side events during the New York Climate Week aimed at shaping
discussions and fostering collaboration among African leaders in tackling
climate change challenges across the continent.
Duale will also participate in discussions
on environmental challenges, advocating for increased international Climate
Financing and highlighting Kenya's progress in adapting to climate impacts and
implementing sustainable practices.
Kenya aims to showcase its commitment to
large-scale environmental restoration by highlighting its goal of growing 15
billion trees by 2032.
