Crack the whip on dodgy developers, gov’t told

The Chairman of National Council of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), Stephen Cheboi, has urged the Government to take action on contractors who are flouting building regulations in the country.

In a circular sent to newsrooms days after a building collapsed in Kisii, killing eight, Cheboi said that unscrupulous developers were endangering the lives of Kenyans.

He argued that had the developers followed protocol, the 13-storey apartment building would not have collapsed.

“Contractors should always follow the approved plans for the building constructions to avoid disasters as result of buildings collapsing,” he said.

Cheboi challenged relevant authorities to ensure that they supervise developers to ensure that no corners are cut once plans have been approved.
