Court rules against former governor Wa Iria in anti-corruption case
Justice P.J. Otieno of Nairobi's Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division issued the decision on Monday.
The prosecution team, which included Ms. Keli, Mr. Panyako, Mr. Momanyi, Mr. Walusala, and Mr. Mwasaru, opposed Wa Iria's petition and provided detailed submissions to the court.
In his ruling, Justice Otieno emphasised that the court cannot interfere with the DPP's powers under Article 157 of the Constitution.
He also stated that the issues raised by the petitioners should be resolved in the trial court.
As a result, the court dismissed Wa Iria's petition and ordered him to pay the costs of the proceedings.
Wa Iria, along with nine other people, is accused of illegally contracting media services from Top Image Media Consultant Limited for more than Ksh. 543 million.
The case is scheduled to be heard on October 3, 2024, as the prosecution prepares to proceed with the charges against the former governor and his co-accused.
