Coronavirus: Kenya announces 2,616 new recoveries, 957 infections and 11 deaths

The Ministry of Health has announced 957 new cases of the novel coronavirus, tested from a sample size of 5,559.

The new infections push the country’s total case load to 72,686 and the total number of samples so far to 804,894.

From the cases, 908 are Kenyans while 49 are foreigners; 569 are male while 388 are female.

The youngest patient is a 2-month-old infant while the oldest is 94 years old.

The cases are distributed across the country as follows:Nairobi 368, Nyeri 53, Kitui 41, Kiambu 40, Kisumu 37, Nyandarua 35, Mombasa 34, Uasin Gishu 34, Kakamega 33, Homabay 31, Nakuru 28, Machakos 21, Kericho 21, Makueni 21, Kirinyaga 19, Kajiado 18, Siaya 18, Embu 18, Isiolo 15, Narok 13, Nandi 10, Laikipia 9, Kilifi 7, Marsabit 7, Garissa 5, Elgeyo Marakwet 4, Trans Nzoia 4, Taita Taveta 4, West Pokot 3, Kwale 2, Migori 1, Busia 1, Samburu 1, and Turkana 1.

In terms of Sub County Distribution; the 368 cases in Nairobi, are from Kibra (49), Dagoretti North (48), Westlands (46), Kamukunji (29), Lang’ata (27), Embakasi East (25), Dagoretti South (24), Embakasi Central (20), Starehe (19), Roysambu (18), Embakasi West (14), Mathare (12) Ruaraka (11), Embakasi North (9), Kasarani (8), Makadara (5) and Embakasi South (4).

In Nyeri, the 53 cases are from Nyeri Central (38), Mathira East (14) and Tetu (1). In Kitui, all the 41 cases are from Kitui Central.

In Kiambu, the 40 cases are from Kiambu Town (13), Kiambaa (9), Thika (5), Kikuyu (4), Kabete (3) Juja and Limuru (2) cases each, Gatundu North and Ruiru (1) case each. In Kisumu the 37 cases are from Kisumu Central (26), Kisumu East (7), Nyando (3) and Nyakach (1).

In Nyandarua, the 35 cases are from are from Ol Kalou (28) and Kipipiri (7)

In Mombasa, the 34 cases are from Jomvu (16), Mvita (6), Likoni (5), Kisauni and Nyali (3) cases each and Changamwe (1). In Uasin Gishu, the 34 cases are from Ainabkoi (26), Kesses (4), Turbo (2), Kapseret and Soy (1) case each. In Kakamega, the 33 cases are from Lurambi (15), Likuyani (10), Mumias West (4), Butere and Matungu (2) cases each.

In Homabay, the 31 cases are from Ndhiwa (12), Homabay Town (11), Karachuonyo (5), Rachuonyo South, Rangwe and Suba South (1) case each. In Nakuru, the 28 cases are from Nakuru East (24), Naivasha and Subukia (2) cases each.

In Machakos, the 21 cases are from Athi River (11), Machakos Town (7), Kangundo, Kathiani and Yatta (1) case each.

In Kericho, all the 21 cases are from Ainamoi, while in Makueni, the 21 cases are from Makueni (10), Kibwezi West and Mbooni (4) cases each, Kibwezi East (3).

In Kirinyaga, the 19 cases are from Kirinyaga Central (16) and Kirinyaga North (3). In Kajiado, the 18 cases are from Kajiado North (8), Loitokitok (6) and Kajiado East

In Siaya, the 18 cases are from Alego Usonga (11), Gem (4), Rarieda (2) and Bondo (1). In Embu, all the 18 cases are from Manyatta, while in Isiolo all the 15 cases are from Isiolo Town.

In Narok, the 13 cases are from Narok North (10) and Narok South (3). In Nandi, the 10 cases are from Emgwen (6) and Nandi Hills (4), while in Laikipia, all the 9 cases are from Laikipia East.

In Kilifi, the 7 cases are from Kaloleni (4), Malindi (2) and Kilifi North (1), while in Marsabit all the 7 cases re from Saku.

In Garissa, the 5 cases are from Dadaab (4) and Garissa Town (1). The 4 cases in Elgeyo Marakwet are from Keiyo North, the 4 cases in Trans Nzoia are from Saboti (2), Endebess and Kwanza (1) case each, while the 4 cases in Taita Taveta are from Taveta (3) and Voi (1). In West Pokot, all the 3 cases are from West Pokot, while all the 2 cases in Kwale, are from Msambweni.

The case in Migori, is from Awendo, the case in Busia, is from Matayos, the case in Samburu, is from Samburu Central, and the case in Turkana is from Turkana Central.

The Health Ministry has also announced 2,616 recoveries; 2,434 from the Home-Based Care and Isolation and 182 from various hospitals.

The total number of recoveries so far stands at 49,878.

At the same time, the total number of fatalities has hit 1,313 after 11 patients succumbed to the virus between Tuesday and Wednesday.

As far as the new infections are concerned, 6,000 people are recuperating under the Home Based program while 1,191 are admitted to hospitals across the country.
