'Clueless cool kids': Ndii fires back at Gen Zs protesting against Finance Bill

David Ndii, the Chair of the President's Council of Economic Advisors, speaking on Citizen TV's NewsNight show on February 14, 2022.

President William Ruto’s economic adviser David Ndii has fired back at Gen Zs who staged demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024.

In a post on X, Ndii alleged that the majority of the youth are children of former leaders who bankrupted the State in past regimes.

Ndii’s remarks came shortly after over 50,000 Kenyans joined X space to call out the Kenya Kwanza regime and demand the release of influencer Billy Simani.

“Irony of these cool kids protesting Finance Bill they are clueless about is many are children of the plunderers who’ve bankrupted the State, the tenderpreneurs, the #KenyattaCronyCapitalismStateCapture and corruption cartels I’ve been battling since before they were born,” he said.

Ndii advised the Gen Zs to tread carefully when trying to make a revolution.

“You want to know where the money went? Look around you, visit your aunties, ask your parents. It bought the houses, the cars, the holidays, paid your college. Here is the low down. The country is going to change and you are welcome to join, but be careful where you throw stones,” Ndii added.

Following his remarks, Kenyans online blasted Ndii for attempting to create a class warfare in his remarks.

“The thing with you, class warfare worked once, now you think class warfare has a second charm with the younger folks. Keynesians in general has a shortage of economic ideas so they borrow a lot from political analysts playbooks,” read one comment.

“Your efforts were watered down the very moment you joined a dysfunctional regime,” another comment read.

“You should stop whining David Ndii. We gave you the mandate. Why not advise the president to dictate the recovery of all looted resources the way he is dictating taxes. Be honest.”

Kenyans online took to X space to call out politicians and hold the Kenya Kwanza government to account over promises pledged in their manifesto and for failing to listen to Kenyans’ demands after passing the Finance Bill in the Second Reading stage.

The Gen Zs have since vowed to continue staging protests until the government recognises the voice of the people.
