CJ Koome concerned with government's failure to release judges’ allowances
Speaking in Mombasa during High Court Leaders Conference held on June 7, Koome said it is an embarrassment that despite the judges delivering their assigned duties, they have not been remunerated therefore killing their morale.
At the same time the chief justice expressed disappointments following the failure by a section of contractors across the country to meet the required standards pointing out the construction of Mombasa court namely Tower of Justices as an example of a failed project and the contractor went missing.
She on the other hand called on the judges to hasten the process of handling the backlog of cases saying over 84,000 cases are lying in the high courts out of which 19,000 have lasted for over 3 years.
"I also urge the High Court to fast-track implementation of the recommendations from the Corruption Risk Assessment as contained in the Report on Systemic Audit of Our Registry Operations by the EACC that we launched last month," Koome said.
On his part, Principal Judge Erick Ogolla supported CJ’s sentiments saying some judges have delayed in issuing judgments for over three years.
