Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati has called on Kenyans to remain patient as the counting and tallying of results continues across the country following the conclusion of voting across the country.

Addressing the media at 10 pm on Tuesday night, Chebukati noted that voting had closed in a majority of polling stations apart from a few areas in Kakamega, Makueni, Isiolo, Nairobi and Mombasa. In the said areas, Chebukati said the voting exercise was extended due to logistical and technical issues that delayed the kick-off of voting.

"I believe they are about to close. Voting started late in these areas and time lost has been compensated," said Chebukati.

The IEBC Chairman explained that the counting and tallying of results will take place at three tallying centres - at the Constituency, County and National Levels.

Chebukati pointed out that results for the MCA and MP positions would be tallied and declared at the Constituency tallying centres while those for the Governor, Senator and Woman Rep seats would be declared at the County Tallying Centres.

At the National Tallying centre set up at Bomas of Kenya, Chebukati said the officials would be doing verification of transmitted image of the results Form 34A against the original Form 34As brought by the Returning Officers (RO).

The process, Chebukati noted would be done in presence of the four political agents and IEBC officials.

Afterwards, Chebukati said the verification of constituency form 34Bs against 34As already verified would be followed by a collation of Form 34 Cs, which are the forms that have all the results of the polling stations.

Thereafter, the commission would oversee confirmation of the constitutional threshold of 50+1 and also the confirmation of 25% of the majority of counties as the final process before the declaration of the winner and awarding of the presidential certificate.
