Charlene Ruto calls for ceasefire between Gen Zs and elders, urges millennials to mediate

President William Ruto’s daughter, Charlene Ruto, is calling for a truce between Kenya’s senior citizens and the country’s increasingly vocal Gen Z youth.

In a passionate statement released on Friday, Charlene placed part of the blame for the “endless and senseless conflict” on millennials, saying the generation has failed to play its rightful role as middle-ground mediators.

“We as the older brothers and sisters who understand both generations have failed to mediate for peaceful coexistence, provide leadership and clarity in tough times, and offer our young people guidance on alternatives that don’t necessarily lead to violent riots,” she said.

Charlene cautioned that the recent wave of anger and confrontation - fueled by violent protests, cyber bullying, and what she termed “rage hunting” and cancel culture - risked radicalizing young people and pushing the country into deeper instability.

“It’s time we embrace a generational ceasefire immediately,” she declared.

Instead of chaos and confrontation, she urged for a national shift toward civil, objective-driven solutions, including inter-generational dialogues, policy recommendations, and active lobbying for sensible reforms.

“Violence, revenge, rage hunting, cancel culture, hooliganism, cyber bullying and violent riots will only erode our national culture, radicalize our youth and induce dangerous instability,” she warned.

Her comments come amid a tense political atmosphere and growing youth agitation over governance, accountability and economic hardships.
