Bodies of five victims in Marsabit mine landslide recovered

The bodies of five people who perished in a landslide at the Hillo Mine in Dabel, Marsabit County, have been identified, and the search for two more people who are believed trapped in the mine is ongoing.

The 3 am incident on Friday, May 24, 2024, claimed the lives of three Kenyans and two Ethiopian citizens. Two sustained injuries, and two others are suspected to have been trapped in the mine.

The dead were identified as Hassan Duba Guyo, an Ethiopian national aged 22, Mohamed Hassan Hussein, a 35-year-old Kenyan, Jillo Adan Jillo, a 32-year-old Kenyan, Rashid Adan Warea, a 38-year-old Kenyan, and an unknown male adult believed to be an Ethiopian national.

The two survivors, Bonaya Mamo Abudho, aged 32, and Abdikadir Hassan, aged 26, are receiving treatment at the Moyale Sub-County Hospital.

The five bodies were moved to the hospital's mortuary awaiting postmortem.
