Bobi Wine writes heartbreaking letter to his children

“Dear Son, I am writing to you from Makindye military prison. Mama will explain to you the rest,” a letter from Bobi Wine to his firstborn Solomon begins.

His wife Barbie Itungo Kyagulanyi shared two letters on her husband’s Facebook page written to their children: Shadrack, Shalom, Suubi and Solomon.

Thursday marks nine days since Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu also known as Bobi Wine was put in military detention.

In the first letter, Bobi Wine tells his children that “he is sorry he did not come back home.”

He goes on to say that he got “some problems” but if they continue to pray for him, he will return to them “soon”.

Bobi Wine also urges them to take care of their mother Barbie, to whom he has been married to for seven years.

According to Reuters, he and four other leaders were arrested on August 13 on suspicion of involvement in the stoning of a presidential convoy during a parliamentary by-election campaign.

“Kyagulanyi was charged on Aug. 16 with unlawful possession of weapons and ammunition while three other lawmakers and dozens of other people also detained in relation to the stoning incident were charged with treason,” the Reuters report said.

His lawyer claimed that the fierce critic of President Yoweri Museveni had been beaten in prison and was unable to walk but Ugandan authorities said the accusation was “rubbish”.

An eight-second video then emerged a day later showing Bobi Wine in coveralls, seated next to unidentified officials and struggling to smile.

The convenient release of the video days after deadly protests rocked the capital Kampala over his arrest has raised eyebrows in several quarters with some claiming that the video “was fake.”
