Billy Mwangi was locked in a dark room, whipped and given portioned meals - MP Mukunji
The legislator, who has spearheaded the demand for Billy's release, said that he has received details of the harrowing torture the abductee faced.
While joining Billy's family on Monday shortly after reunion, Mukunji said that a preliminary report intimates that whipping and food portioning were used as weapons of maltreatment.
'The young man is seriously traumatized, he has been whipped and he was also in a dark room. When we were enjoying the Christmas holidays the young man was locked in an unknown place," noted Mukunji.
"I am told Billy Mwangi was being given one meal a day and it was portioned to make him feel helpless."
While condemning the abduction that has since gone unchecked, the MP vowed to take legislative action and amend laws that will safeguard the safety of Kenyans.
"We are going to look at how we can change our law to ensure that if such a thing happens the government first stops because one of us is all of us," he said.
"Let Billy be the last person to go through the ordeal that he has gone through. Let his parents be the last people who have gone through that ordeal."
He maintained that the fight against abduction will remain firm, adding that attempts to instill fear in Kenyans through unlawful tactics will not force them to cave in.
"Because Billy has not been charged it is clear that these people wanted to instill fear in us but we are even stronger.
We will not allow lawlessness, the overreach of government and instances where there is ignorance of the rule of law," he added.
"We have come out stronger as leaders who have [a] conscience and we are going to fight more."
Billy was abducted on December 21, 2024, and returned to his home after 16 days to his home in Embu.
His relieved father Gerald Karicha said that his son walked into their compound at around 8am and is currently under their care.
“He brought himself home. I was with his mum outside when we saw him. We thank God, all the people who have prayed with us and supported us,” Karicha told the press on Monday afternoon.
Billy was among 6 other youths abducted after making social media posts aimed at criticizing President William Ruto and the state.
Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli and Rony Kiplangat, who had also been abducted in December 2024 were freed on Monday.
Gideon Kibet's family, alias Kibet Bull, has reported that they are yet to hear from him after his abduction on December 24, 2024.
His brother Rony Kiplangat has been reunited with his kin.
