Babu Owino narrates his ordeal at the hands of police during 3-day detention
In a video shared on his social media platforms, Babu reveals his dramatic arrest at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
He says he was handcuffed and blindfolded after allegedly being abducted, and then thrown into the boot of a waiting Subaru.
Babu says he was then driven to an unknown location and put in solitary confinement. Later on, his family traced him to Wang’uru police station in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
“For three days I was not given food, no access to my family, no access to my legal representation, I did not take a bath, I did not take water, and that was a very inhumane treatment accorded to me,” Babu said.
The MP wondered what would happen to a common mwananchi if an elected MP could be subjected to such treatment.
He went on to condemn the Kenya Kwanza administration for the alleged mistreatment, saying his only mistake was to fight for Kenyans.
“I’m a messenger, you can kill the messenger but you will never kill the message. If fighting for Kenyans will cost me my life, so be it. Since I was a student leader, I was fighting for the interests of Kenyans and I will continue fighting for them.”
Babu said what happened to him will only catalyze their fight for a better Kenya, saying the cost of living is unbearable for the common man.
“The price of fuel must come down. The price of unga must come down. The price of other commodities must come down. A good leader is the one who ensures that his people do not suffer.”
Babu warned President Ruto that he will go down if his administration goes ahead with the controversial Finance Act 2023, which proposes more taxes on Kenyans.
