Azimio, Kenya Kwanza praise progress of bipartisan talks, announce IEBC reconstitution team
The 14-member team delegated to conduct the bipartisan talks between
the Azimio la Umoja and Kenya Kwanza coalitions now says that they are content
with the progress of the talks.
This was announced by the coalition's team leads who said that
they were making headway in arriving at peaceful agreements and resolving the
matters of contention.
Kenya Kwanza's George Murugara, who doubles as the MP for
Tharaka Constituency, said they have agreed on working with a hybrid model
which will recognise both the parliamentary process and also engagements
outside parliament that will allow people out of parliament to give their views
and also as rapporteurs.
"As you can see we are agreeing on one issue after the
other. We seem to be heading in the right direction. When we talk at arm's
length we actually agree," said Murugara.
On his part, Azimio's team lead Otiende Amollo who is also MP
for Rarieda, echoed Murugara's sentiments saying "we can confirm that as a
team we are happy with the progress of the talks."
At the same time, he added that they have constituted a team of
6 members, 3 from each side, who will start to debunk the contentious matter on
the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission
(IEBC).
Azimio will be represented by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna,
Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo.
Kenya Kwanza will be represented by Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei,
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse.
"We expect by the time they come back they will have
concretized thoughts around that," he said.
