Assault case against Ian Njoroge dropped as police officer forgives him

The charges were dropped after the complainant in the case, police officer Jacob Ogendo told the court that he had forgiven Ian Njoroge for assaulting him.
Njoroge was discharged before presiding magistrate, Ben Mark Ekhubi. He had been charged with robbery with violence and assaulting the police officer.
The case was withdrawn under Section 204 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC), leading to his release.
This withdrawal of the case followed intervention by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Speaking outside the Milimani Law Courts, Njoroge's mother thanked Sonko stating: "I thank God for the grace he has accorded us all this time. I and my family we did not know Mike Somnko but by God's grace he was touched and he came to our rescue. Thank you so much, Governor," she said.
On his part Njoroge said: "Former Governor Mike Sonko he has been with us to the core until the last minute. I thank him for the help he has given us."
The Governor thanked the police constable Ogendo and all parties involved in the matter for agreeing to resolve the dispute and grant the accused another chance to reform.
"I thank corporal Jacob Ogendo for the good gesture. You know very well he was my bodyguard when I was an MP. So we are very thankful," said Sonko.
