Appeals for university funding model to be heard in December - CS Migos
University students who have complaints about
the current university funding model will have to wait a little longer for
their appeals to be heard and their banding corrected where necessary,
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos has announced.
The CS made this revelation on Tuesday when
he appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Education, highlighting that
education officials have yet to open the appeals.
"On the question of appeals, we have not
started working on them because we said bring them in…you’re in school; you are
not being told to go away. We are going to ensure we conduct the exams so that
we can do an analysis when everybody has had a chance. So, it's an ongoing
exercise," said Migos.
He added that the complaints portal will be
open until December and that his ministry is waiting for a team to thoroughly
inspect the complaints.
However, he insisted that students will be
allowed to continue with their studies as the process continues.
The CS later joined the Head of Public
Service, Felix Koskei, in witnessing the 129-member committee that was gazetted
by President William Ruto to review the model.
"Education matters to many, so I ask you to consult widely. Speak to the education sector, but also to parents, groups, associations, lobbyists, regulators, and students. The wider your consultation, the likelier your recommendation will meet approval," Koskei said at the event.
