5 people killed in Migori road accident
Among the people who perished in the accident are two teachers.
Eye witnesses claim that the driver of the lorry that was moving at a very high speed lost control and hit two riders who had pillion passengers, killing them on the spot at round 7.55pm.
Kuria West sub county police commander Reuben Bett said two riders and three pillion passengers perished while the driver of the lorry involved in the accident sustained injuries and is currently hospitalized.
Bett said the driver of the lorry that was ferrying maize from Isebania towards Migori general direction lost control of the vehicle and rammed the two motorcycles that were coming from the opposite direction.
The sub county police commander said they police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
Residents of Nyametembe said they have several cases of accident at Nyametembe bridge as the area is becoming a black spot.
Richard Chacha, a resident of the area said they have had about four cases of accidents around Nyametembe bridge in the past one year.
Chacha said the road in this area in very narrow and therefore there is need to expand it in a bid to reduce cases of accidents.
His remarks were echoed by Serine Boke and Dancan Nyange who said that the government through the Kenya National Highway Authority should erect bumps in the area.
