40 suspects arrested in crackdown on criminal gangs in Nakuru

At least 40 suspects linked to cases of insecurity in Narok town were on Tuesday apprehended by police in an ongoing crackdown on criminal gangs.

This came as police discovered the body of an unidentified male dumped in Kantas, Narok town, on Tuesday morning.

"We found a body but we haven't been able to identify it. The body had many visible injuries on it," Narok sub-county Police Commander John Momanyi told Citizen TV.

"The gangs are using the rains to conceal their attacks," Isaiah Odiraga, a resident, added.

Elsewhere in Kericho, three suspects have been arrested in connection with a spate of violent robberies in the region.

Detectives have moved to court seeking 10 days to detain the suspects as they conduct investigations.

The robberies sparked protests among residents who barricaded the Kericho-Kisumu highway at Kapsoit for the better part of Tuesday, paralyzing transport along the busy route for more than 5 hours.

Residents demanded increased security measures in the area, also citing one fatality and another person critically injured in an assault by unknown assailants this week.

"We have lost our kin to these gangs. Swift action needs to be taken against them," Victor Kibet, a Kericho resident, said.

Police officers subsequently rushed to the scene to restore order, assuring residents that security will be beefed up in the affected areas of Kapsoit.

"Rest assured that we will sort the issue of insecurity in this region. We'd like to ask the public to support us in identifying these gang members," Kericho County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo said.
