Twenty five people have been hospitalized after eating meat from a dead cow at Masindoni area in Chepalungu, Bomet County.

According to Bomet County police commandant Edward Imbwaga, the affected were both children and adults who consumed the carcass of a cow belonging to one of the villagers which had died some days ago after being sick for two weeks.

In a police report, the victims developed running stomach nausea and vomiting immediately after consuming the meat, prompting the area chief Richard Koech with the help of Nyumba kumi members, to mobilize the victims to be taken to a nearby medical facility.

A team of boda boda riders were requested to carry the victims to a private medical facility at Ndanai trading center where they are undergoing treatment while others were treated and discharged.

Koech said some of the victims are still hiding in the village despite having feasted on the carcasses.

Following the incident, the owner of the dead cow, Janeth Terer, a 39-year-old, was immediately arrested for authorizing the cow to be slaughtered and carcass dispersed to several people in the village. She also told the police that non of her family member  consumed the meat.
