Vybz Kartel falls ill while partying at a Kingston nightclub

Jamaican dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel, real name Adidja Palmer, fell ill while partying at a popular nightclub in Kingston on Monday night, prompting widespread fears amongst fans over his deteriorating health.

Not so long after, sources close to the legendary musician told the Jamaican Observer that the "Comet" hitmaker was “doing fine” after the scary incident.

Videos of Vybz being assisted out of the club have been circulating on social media, raising further concerns about the entertainer’s health especially since he has been diagnosed with Graves’ disease.

In the footage, which has since gone viral, the club’s disc jockey can be heard asking patrons on the upper deck, where Kartel was located, to give him space.

Kartel was later seen sitting on the rails as patrons around him used rags and other items to ‘fan’ him.

He is then seen being ushered out of the nightclub, as he holds on to several security men.

Jamaican media outlets have revealed that Kartel experienced breathing difficulties while performing at Meca Nightclub on Monday night, where he was accompanied by his wife, Sidem.

Things took a turn when Kartel had to pause the festivities - He requested the audience to step back, citing the overwhelming heat and his struggle to breathe.

Earlier this year, Kartel’s health challenges were highlighted in a report by Fox 5 News, which revealed a sworn medical affidavit from his private doctor.

The affidavit disclosed that he suffers from Graves’ disease, a thyroid condition that can lead to serious health complications, along with a worsening heart condition that may require surgery.

These issues have resulted in noticeable swelling in his neck and face, as well as bulging eyes, hence his constant need to always step out wearing oversized sunglasses.

Just like the Jamaican dancehall ace, several other celebrities have also battled Graves’ disease - notable figures like TV show host Wendy Williams, singer Sia, and rapper Missy Elliott have publicly shared their experiences with the condition.

Back in August, the 'Coloring This Life' singer was freed from prison after judges decided he should not face a retrial for murder.

The 48-year-old was jailed in 2014 but his conviction was overturned by UK judges in March.

He had been accused of the killing of Clive "Lizard" Williams in Jamaica but has always maintained his innocence.
