The Kikuyu comedy scene is set to receive a new boost with the upcoming theatre play titled 'Reke Ithambio’ (translated to: 'let them get washed'), from highly acclaimed writer and producer Tash Mitambo.

The 'Gikuyu' stage comedy play is set in a metropolitan environment of a middle class sort of a background, fusing old kikuyu with the latest trends of current triple X generation.

The much anticipated vernacular play is set to dominate the coming weekend space right from Friday (August 18) at 6.30 pm, as well as Saturday and Sunday from 3pm to 6pm at 'The Professional Center', commonly known as the ‘Phoenix Theatre’ on Parliament road, in Nairobi.

“Everything about this comedy play is superb. From the laughter side of it to a great story-line that has a unique and humorous resonation with ordinary life, matched with superb talent of the cast involved. We got a fine blend of highly talented old and new actors in the industry,” said Sam Kihiu, the play's director.

The comedy play follow two young barbers working hard to provide for their families in a barbershop that means everything to them.

When their wives decide that they can run the shop better, the barbers grudgingly let go of not only their place of work but what they consider as their refuge too.

Chaos ensues as the women fail in their works at the barbershop. Halfheartedly, they desperately ask their men to come back but it becomes messy and noisy. Finally the 'kinyozi' men agree to hold some 'bi-partisan talks' with their wives.

“It is all about greed and selfishness. Literally this is kind of a social war when trying to ostensibly prove yourself better than your partner. A humorous showcase of vices in our homes and businesses,” explains producer Mr. Mitambo.

The thrilling cast includes Lydia Wabocha playing the character of Wangeci, the wife to barber Kung’u, whose real name is George Chege.

Then there is Ann Margaret acting as Loise, the wife of barber Mbuthia, whose real name is Ndiangúi Muya.

The owner of the kinyozi is Tash Mitambo, who also doubles up as the writer and producer.

Kikuyu comedy fans are in for a treat with this play, with the entrance charges set at Ksh.1,000, payable through M-Pesa Till Number 337528.
