Kenyans turn to memes and jokes awaiting presidential election results

As Kenyans await the announcement of the much-anticipated presidential results, they have not sulked into a nail-biting state or even hidden behind the silent ice-bergs of Antarctica.

Kenyans barely go mum on anything, they have this character to ameliorate everything that surfs through the bustling streets of social media with memes.

It always gives an impression that there are some screen-glued creatives hiding in the back streets of 'Meme-City' ready to pounce on anything that surfaces online.

And with the same agility Kenyans did not spare the highlights of the ongoing General Election as from the day the electorate queued to cast their votes.

The 'Sina-maoni' meme emerged a few hours after a man who was interviewed on Citizen TV did not respond to a question posed to him. He said Sina Maoni which translates to "I have no comments."

And once the vote tallying process kicked off, Kenyans turned to memes to kill the butterfly agitation in their stomachs.

It started by TV stations displaying their own tallies which displayed a neck-to-neck contention between the two top candidates William Ruto and Raila Odinga.

Kenyans went online joking on disappointments from different results that were being shown on different stations, and supporters would prefer the stations showing their candidate leading.

As if that was not enough, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati was thrown into the rubble as Kenyans wanted him to announce the final results to ease the now-stiffened tension.

Others came up with manuals on how to cope with election anxiety and even the kind of lives presidential candidates will be living if they lose in the polls.

The following are some of the meme collections Citizen Digital came across:
