‘Gone but never forgotten,’ Kevin Hart mourns dad

American comedian and actor Kevin Hart has lost his biological father, Henry Robert Witherspoon.

Hart announced the sad news on his official social media pages. 

“RIP to one of the realest & rawest to ever do it…Love you dad. Gone but never forgotten….Give mom a hug for me,” Hart captioned photos of his family together with his dad. 

He also appreciated the actions of his father, saying it has made him a good dad.

“Thank you for everything…I’m a better father because of you. We will all make you proud,” he wrote. 

Witherspoon, who has died at the age of 75, never had a good relationship with Hart as he was never present during Hart’s childhood. He was always dealing with drugs that made him get arrested often. 

The two however, reconciled and were trying to rekindle their bond which they partially achieved after Witherspoon worked on his addiction problem.

Hart’s father had lung cancer, which was treated but he later developed COPD. 

In 2019, Hart announced that his father had lung cancer but was treated.

“My dad had lung cancer, overcame that, and I supposed now he has what they call COPD, it affects breathing,” said Hart in a video he posted.

Kevin lost his mother in 2007 who died from cancer.
