Dancehall maestro Redsan now says that the
downfall of most Kenyan artistes begins when they depend on clout rather than
talent to sell their music.
The ‘Shoulder back’ hit maker claimed most
Kenyan artistes would rather play mind games with their fans so as to sell
their music content, instead of trusting in their art and talent.
“Wasanii wengi hawa-trust sanaa, wanatrust
clout na kudanganya watu…Unacheza na akili ya fans alafu kidogo umerelease
muziki. Look at the international artistes we support and listen to, these
people release content without clout,” said Redsan during an interview with
Radio Maisha on Monday.
He further offered three solutions that he
feels the Kenyan music industry needs in order to be internationally
recognized.
According to the dancehall king, Kenya needs
streaming services, 75% airplay, and visibility on the available streaming
platforms that he said are currently dominated by Nigerian artistes.
“Kama ni Spotify Kenya, feature Kenyan artistes,
not Nigerian artistes…this is a conversation we need to bring after the 75%
airplay is passed,” said Redsan.
The comments come after Redsan released a rap song titled ‘Ukicatch we catch’, which is aimed at revealing the ails that have hit the Kenyan music industry over the years.
