Bongo star Aslay inks global deal with Sony Music

In a joint post, the American multinational music company cordially received Aslay, welcoming the Tanzanian-based sensation “to the family.”

Describing Aslay as “an exceptional singer and songwriter”, Christine “Seven” Mosha, Head of Sony Music East Africa, jumped on the bandwagon in congratulating Aslay for his new opportunity to work with Sony, home to the most successful artists around the world.

“I am super proud to have an artist of Aslay stature join us at Sony Music Africa. Aslay is an exceptional singer and songwriter who has championed the Bongo Flava genre across Africa and now globally, we’re thrilled to partner with him to bring his amazing talent and music to the ears of as many fans as we can globally,” she commented.

Upon being asked how he feels about being part of the Sony family, Aslay said: “I am very blessed to announce my partnership with Sony Music Africa. This is a great opportunity, not just for me, but for my genre of music, Bongo Flava! That I strongly love. Sony Music Africa’s global network will allow my voice and the music I represent to be carried globally and I am very proud of this step in my career.” 

Commanding about 5 million followers on Instagram, 2 million on Facebook and close to 1 million subscribers on his YouTube Channel, the superstar represents the Bongo Flava genre - Tanzania’s unique signature style of music.

The ’Kainama’ hitmaker has showcased his talent and gifted art not only in East Africa but also around the world, featuring a top-tier list of collaborations, among others, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade and Mr Eazi.

Aslay is set to drop his documentary dubbed “Mimi Ni Bongo Flava,” featuring 5 episodes that are designed to engage his music fanatics through his journey.
