A jack-of-all-trades, master of all: Meet William Nanjero, the force behind Sol Generation
William Nanjero is a man who wears many hats; he is an athlete holding multiple caps in the field of sports, an entrepreneur and for what he’s now popularly known for, being Sol Generation’s General Manager.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, the multifaceted personality opened up on the versatile careers that he has dabbled in.
At the top of the list, Nanjero is the driving force and General Manager of brands and projects at Sol Generation; the record label of Grammy-certified Kenyan music group Sauti Sol.
“As the General Manager of Sol Generation, I manage the growth of the 6 artists; Bensoul, Nviiri The Storyteller, Bien-Aime, Savara, Chimano and Fancy Fingers,” Nanjero said.
“I have graphic designers, people in finance, marketing and PR, a project manager, an accountant, and a research team whose sole purpose is to understand what our fans want,” he added.
Furthermore, Nanjero was crowned the captain of the Kenya National Triathlon Team in 2021 and was the first Kenyan triathlete to compete for the country.
In 2019, he took part in the Ironman World Championship which entailed, a 3.8-kilometre swim, 180-kilometre cycle and 42.2-kilometre run.
Triathlon is an athletic contest consisting of three different events, typically swimming, cycling, and long-distance running.
According to the all-rounded achiever, entertainment goes hand in glove with sports.
“Sports and entertainment are quite similar, in that, athletes and entertainers go through the same process to develop specialized skills; discipline, order, working around the clock and having a supportive team” he says.
Adding to his list, Nanjero is a proficient and certified trainer of Sports Mental Health, who through multi-sport, strives to help underprivileged athletes reach their potential.
But wait, there’s more.
Having pursued Business Management at United States International University (USIU-Africa) and Master’s in Business Management at Greenwich University (UK), Nanjero has corporate experience in technology and has worked for Fintech in firms such as Safaricom.
“My speciality is technology and finance; I have worked in very many corporate jobs in different countries including Malawi, Cape Town, South Africa, Zambia, Mozambique and in Kenya with Safaricom (M-Pesa) when it was still in its infancy stage.”
Away from Nanjero’s various lines of careers, one might be left in open-mouthed wonderment as he describes himself as a family man.
“I am a family man. I have the most amazing family. I spend a lot of time in sports, entertainment and technology, which means that I have very little time to spend with them. Despite that, they support me and push my goals,” said the married father of two children.
Without giving the game away, the triathlete shed some light on more plans that he has in store in the near future, disclosing that he is in the course of writing a book.
“I am in the process of authoring a book. The girl child has been uplifted because there has been a special focus on them over the years, but if I look at young and adolescent boys, there’s no support structure for them. I am therefore working on a number of things that will help elevate teenage boys as well as their parents,” said Nanjero.
