21-year-old Enviromentalist Anita Soina to vie for Kajiado North MP seat
The twenty-one-year-old shared the news on Instagram on Sunday, noting that she was born and raised in Kajiado North and thus understands the community's struggles.
“It’s here. People over profits. Everyday it hurts me to see what people go through. Born to a Maasai dad from Kajiado North, as I trace back to my roots to understand my culture and as a young leader who understands some of the challenges facing the people, I have decided to do this.”
The environmental warrior went on to say that being in a position of leadership is the first step toward resolving the issues that plague the people of Kajiado North.
“To me, the first step towards solving a problem is getting to that position of a problem solver. Twende bunge tupiganie haki za wapiga kura!”
Soina, who began her activism at the age of eighteen, is one of Kenya's youngest environmental activists, having founded the 'Spice Warriors' organization three years ago to promote environmental conservation.
Soina talked about her love for the environment and referred to Nature as her master on Ebru TV in 2020.
“I fight to protect the environment and I like to say I chose one master and that’s nature.”
Soina uses her online platform to passionately advocate for social change in Kenya and around the world through environmental policy.
In May, the environmental activist gave a TED talk about environmental protection through social change.
Soina, who recently graduated Multimedia University with a degree in Public Relations and Corporate Communication, will be the youngest person to vie for any parliamentary seat in Kenya.
