Kenyan man set on breaking Guinness world record with 15000 hugs within 24 hours
Achoka’s mission is to achieve fifteen thousand hugs within 24 hours, a tall order that he believes he can achieve.
“Although it appears challenging, I believe It is achievable,” he said.
Citizen Digital caught up with him as he prepares himself for what he describes as one of the most challenging mission yet a thrill he is willing to experience to show that Kenyans are warm people by giving and receiving free hugs.
“That will require standing in one position for twenty-four hours, physically I am okay and ready to handle to pressure that comes with the challenge,” he said.
For two years, he has been receiving free hugs from Kenyan, and he went viral online during the Reject finance bill demonstration when he hugged over a thousand people in two hours during the tensed protest.
“We were just trying to change the stereotype that Nairobian are cold, I mean if 1000 people came to hug you it shows that people are warm. We are just here to spread some love and good vibes,’ he explained
According to him, the longest hug he has shared is just for a minute noting that he found the experience calming and conversational adding that that it is therapeutic for most people
“For some, it’s like a therapy session, you will actually feel it’s like they have released stress once the embrace is released,” he said.
For the challenge to be a success, there are rules Achoka has to adhere to like once the timer starts it is supposed to go on for 24 hours nonstop.
“If the timer stops anywhere, I will be disqualified, secondly I am not allowed to leave the stage for the 24 hours need to break the record. One person is not supposed to hug me more than once and it has to be a full embrace,” he explained.
According to him, the biggest support he needs from Kenya is through people showing up for the hugs and financial support.
“I need Ksh 1M to hold the event successfully because you must have a live streaming team and equipment. I also need security team, set and most importantly professional witnesses. It is an event like any other. If we can have sponsors who can come onboard, that would be a noble course to spread some love,” he said
