Treasury CS to table 2017/18 budget on March 23

The National Treasury will break from tradition and present the 2017/2018 financial year budget on March 23.

Usually Kenya presents its budget on the second Thursday of June along with the other East African nations.

The National Treasury had since last year sought to speed up the budget making process with the country’s general elections set for August 8.

2017/2018 budget estimates indicate that the government plans to spend Sh2.23 trillion.

Parliament usually adjourns its sittings two months to the general elections necessitating the need to bring the budget tabling date forward.
