Starehe affordable housing project goes on sale
The Starehe
Point Affordable Housing Project in Nairobi launched by President William Ruto
on March 6 went on sale on Monday.
The Ksh.20 billion housing project, touted as the
largest in the country, comprises over 6,000 apartments.
One-bedroom
units start retailing from Ksh.1.98 million, two-bedroom goes for Ksh.3.46
million while 3-bedroom units go for Ksh.4.12 million.
Property developer Gulf Cap Real Estate's CEO, Chris Ochieng, said over 1,200 people expressed interest to buy the units
on the first day of sale.
“The
pathway to housing should be fair and equitable for all citizens, this is the
foundation that helps families support their communities and contribute to
building the economy of our country,” he added.
The
project is part of President William Ruto’s ambitious plan to solve the housing
deficit in the country through the construction of 200,000 housing units
annually.
It
is being done through a Joint Venture between GulfCap Real Estate and the
National Government through the State Department of Housing and Urban Design.
GulfCap is owned by investment
banker Suleiman Shahbal who is also a member of the East African Legislative
Assembly (EALA).
The company is also developing
the Ksh.6 billion Buxton Point affordable housing project in Mombasa which has
2,000 units and is being done in partnership with the County Government of
Mombasa.
