Parliament Budget Office seeks new Director

The Parliament Budget Office (PBO) is seeking a new Director as the term of the sitting Phyllis Makau comes to a close.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has called for applications for the position with a five-year term on the offing and renewable for a further five-year stretch.

The new Director will be tasked with providing the overall direction for the directorate as well as formulating the office’s annual work plan.

Further, the Director is expected to provide the framework for regular budget briefings to Members of Parliament (MPs) and Committees.

Holders of the position are expected to have a Master’s degree in Economics or its equivalent and are expected to have a decade of experience in public finance.

The PSC is expected to receive applications to the post on or before the close of business on March 3.

The departing Phyllis Makau has been PBO’s Director since July of 2010.

The PBO was established in 2007 as a unit under the Directorate of Information and Research Services before being appraised to a Directorate in 2010.

The independent office is primarily engaged in advising Parliament on budget matters.
