Air Tanzania returns to Kenyan skies

The airline is now expected to resume flights to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from where it will operate double-daily flights connecting Nairobi to Dar es Salaam.

The carrier will operate its newly acquired Airbus A220-300 on the route.

The return of Tanzania’s flag carrier to the Kenyan airspace follows improved bilateral relations between the two countries in recent months as the pair of governments seemingly look to bolster their relations.

“We are extremely delighted to resume the Nairobi route, which is one of the most significant destinations in East Africa and a key aviation hub as well,” said Eng. Ladislaus Matindi, the Managing Director and CEO of Air Tanzania.

The airline will depart Dar’s Julius Nyerere International Airport at 5:30am and arrive at JKIA at 6:45am before departing Nairobi at 7:45 am to arrive in Dar at 9:00am.

Evening flights will meanwhile depart Dar es Salaam at 8pm to arrive in Nairobi at 9:15pm before departing the hub at 10:15pm to arrive in Tanzania at 11:30pm.

A round trip is expected to cost $334 (Ksh.37,542) while a one-way trip will cost $210 (Ksh.23,604).

Besides Nairobi, Air Tanzania has launched flights to Burundi, Zambia and the DRC.

Air Tanzania was formed on the backdrop of the 1977’s collapse of East African Airways tracing its own founding to that of Kenya’s flag carrier Kenya Airways (KQ).
